How Do I become an Orthodox Christian?

Becoming Orthodox is an intimate process that involves commitment and engagement. If you are interested in the Orthodox Christian faith, we encourage your attendance at the Divine Liturgy, seminars, spiritual and social events of our parish and other Orthodox Christian parishes.

What is a Catechumen?

A catechumen (Greek: κατηχούμενος) is a person who is preparing for baptism in the Church. Today, a catechumen can also refer to someone who is preparing for chrismation.

In ancient times, the catechumen often prepared for this conversion for as much as three years. It included participation in divine service and formal instruction from a teacher.

Today, catechetical instruction does not typically last three years, which was common in the time of Saint John Chrysostom. It typically can last from six months to a year, and it also depends on the level of spiritual maturity of the catechumen. As a standard, we try to meet about ten to twelve times throughout the year.
